Teen Company Joins "Summer Adventures"

NextStop Theatre Company logoIt's not just summer camp: NextStop Theatre Company in Herndon, Virginia, is calling its youth programs "Summer Theatre Adventures 2019."

The program comprises weeklong theater classes for first through 12th graders. A total of 11 sessions is available, each led and designed by experienced professional teaching artists, allowing students to explore different subjects and areas of theater week by week.

Sessions meet Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Single week sessions present a showcase at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, and "Let's Put on a Show" sessions perform full productions on the Saturday at the end of the session.

New this year is the NextStop Teen Company for students in grades 8–12. Covering two weeks (June 17–28), the sessions will pair students with seasoned professional actors and directors to strengthen their skills through scene work, one-on-one coaching, and learning more advanced production numbers. The program will culminate with a premiere showcase of fully staged scenes and songs.

Sessions available for kids in grades 5–9 cover improv and acting for the stage, plus two, two-week "Let's Put on a Show" sessions, one staging High School Musical Jr., the other Peter Pan Jr.

Younger kids, grades 1–4, can participate in five sessions covering various aspects of theater, from generic acting skills to specific theater genres such as storytelling, musicals, fantasy, and superheroes. A session also has them joining the older kids for "Let's Put on A Show: Peter Pan Jr.," in which they will play the Lost Boys and Brave Girls.
