Kentucky Shakespeare

State's Largest In-School Arts Ed Program
Prepares for New School Year at All Levels

Kentucky Shakespeare logoKentucky Shakespeare is the largest in-school arts education organization in the Commonwealth, visiting more than 75,000 students each year. Since 1990, Kentucky Shakespeare has made the works of Shakespeare accessible for more than 1 million K–12th grade students in all 120 counties of Kentucky.

The company offers a number of touring programs to choose from, including Bard Buddies (K–3), Faerie Tales from Across the Globe (K–3), Inspecting Shakespeare (4–12), Living History–American/Kentucky (4–12), Staging Shakespeare (4–12), residencies (all grades), after-school programs (all grades), camps (All Grades), and a two-person tour (K–5) and spring tour (6–12). All programs are aligned with the Common Core standards for the state of Kentucky through the provision of associated study guides, on-demand writing prompts, and other supplemental materials.

Recognizing that not every student learns in the same way, the curriculum for Kentucky Shakespeare programs is tailored to students of all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, learning styles, and intellectual abilities.

Kentucky Shakespeare's educational programming offers a world of opportunity for actors, educators, and, most importantly, students to experience the imaginative world of the theater. With inspired performances, unique learning opportunities, and enchanting shows that allow students to take a creative voyage through the ages, the company's teaching artists strive to convey the excitement and ingenuity that lived in the mind of the brilliant playwright. Kentucky Shakespeare believes that exposing students to the arts opens a world of appreciation and understanding that ultimately leads to better learning. Studies show that incorporating drama education across the curriculum increases social awareness, improves problem-solving skills, and helps students access their prior knowledge in order to make real-life connections.
